Game Recap

If you didn’t make the trip to Yorktown Friday night, you missed a game for the ages. NC beat the Tigers 62-55 in O.T. It was a game where NC was down, but never quit and never was out of it. The boys dug deep and when Chandler Marcum knockes down a 4th down pass in O.T. got the win.

Yorktown got the ball first and Mason Hardwick proceeded to intercept a pass. Williamson found Triston Chesher for a 58 yard pass down to the YHS 1 yard line. On the next series, Williamson found Luke Bumbalough for a 33 yard TD and Brown added the PAT to make it 14-7. YHS countered with a 67 yard TD run but missed the pat to make it 14-13 after 1.

In the second quarter, Williamson scrambled and injures his knee. The Trojan D stood up and stopped the Tigers at the 1 yard line keeping it 14-13. YHS then intercepted a NC pass and moved it down the field for a TD giving the Tigers a 19-14 lead. After another series of punts, NC needed 23 seconds for Williamson to hit Chesher on a 23 yard TD and Brown added the PAT to make it 21-19 at the break.

NC punted to start the 3rd, and YHS took over when Hardwick intercepted his second pass of the game. On the next play, YHS intercepted it back and returned it for a TD giving them a 27-21 lead. On the next series, Williamson found Nicholas Grieser for a 20 yard TD and Brown hit it again, making it 28-27 NC. Grieser then picked off a YHS pass and NC had to punt. YHS scored on their possession and added the 2 point conversion to make it 35-28 at the end of 3. And that is when the fireworks began.

YHS turned the ball over on downs and Willianson found Bumbalough taking the ball down to the 1. Williamson snuck it over from the 1 tieing the score at 35. NC answered when Williamson found Grieser on a 12 yard TD, but Brown’s pat was no good and NC trailed 49-48. YHS got the ball with 3:28 left and on 3rd and 1, broke a long TD, which was good for NC, as they missed the pat and it was 55-48 with 2:30 left. NC got the ball and moved down the field when Williamson hit James Thompson for a 37 yard TD and the pat was good tieing the game at 55.
