Tri High school’s jv team came to Neal Field to fill a game vacated by Shelbyville Monday night, and left with a 30-24 loss to the Trojans. Matt Bell recovered a fumble at the Tri 20 yard line and on the next play, Dylan Beck took it to the house off a bone crushing block by Brandon Matney for a TD. QB William Grieser added the 2 point conversion and it was 8-0 NC. Tri answered and moved the ball down the field, scoring with 3:35 left in the quarter to tie it at 8. On NC’s next possession, Grieser rolled to his left and found Cooper Rusch for a 29 yard TD pass. Beck added the 2 point conversion and it was 16-8 after 1.
In the second quarter, Tri scored with 1:29 left in thr half to tie the score at 16. NC took the possession and after a completion from Grieser to Jackson Criswell, Beck took it 53 yards for a TD. The conversion was no good and it was 22-16 at half.
Tri had to punt on the first possession of the 3rd quarter, and Grieser moved the Trojans down to the 22 yardline where he hit Aaron Reagan on a crossing route and after another crushing block by Matney, found paydirt. Beck added the 2 point conversion to make it 30-16 NC.
NC’s defense stopped Tri and NC moved it down to the 6 yard line where they turned it over on downs. Tri proceeded to go 94 yards in 7 minutes and 34 seconds and with 3:12 left in the 4th in was 30-24. NC couldn’t muster a first down, and had to punt.Tri rushed everyone and Michael Buksar punted a beautiful 38 yard punt to get the Trojans out of trouble. Tri took over and after 1 first down, turned the ball over as Deven Fielden tackled the Tri ball carrier for a loss, and the game was over.
Offensively, Beck ran the ball 14 times for 119 yards with 2 TDs and 2- 2 point conversions. Grieser threw the ball well, completing 6 passes for 123 yards and 2 Touchdowns and added a 2 point conversion. Matney had 3 catches for 65 yards, Rusch 2 for 33 and a TD, Reagan 3 for 50 and a TD, and Criswell 2 for 13.
Defensively, Matt Bell was the leading tackler with 13 total tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery. Beck had 11 tackles, Robert Porter had 5 tackles and 2 passes defended. Landon Burge had 5 tackles including a tackle for loss, and Trenton Round, Max Rinberger, and Deven Fielden also had tackles for loss.
NC moves to 2-1 on the season.
