Game Recap

New Castle travelled up SR 38 and battled Pendleton to the end before falling 34-31. Pendleton took the opening kickoff, and on the first play, ran 74 yards for a TD to go up 7-0. After trading punts, NC got the ball and moved it down the field where Niah Williamson hit Luke Bumbalough for a 15 yard TD. Carter Brown added the PAT, and it was tied at 7 at the end of 1.
Starting the second quarter, Brown hit a 22 yard field goal putting the Trojans up 10-7. On Pendleton’s next possession, they ran for a 62 yard score to go up 14-10. After a NC punt, Pendleton was driving when Chadler Marcum picked off a PH pass giving the Trojans the ball. NC moved down the field and the drive culminated in a Williamson to James Thompson 35 yard TD pass giving the Trojans a 17-14 lead. PH moved down the field and scored just before half time giving them a 21-17 lead at the break.
NC got the ball to start the 3rd quarter and had to punt, but Williamson’s punt pinned PH deep in their own territory. On 3rd down, Nicholas Grieser jumped in front of a PH pass and returned it 22 yards for a TD, and Brown added the PAT to go up 24-21. PH then went on a 5 minute drive, and scored to make the score 28-24 after 3.
NC moved the ball down to the PH 5 yard line on the first possession of the 4th quarter, but threw an INT in the end zone, stopping the drive. NC’s defense stood up and made PH punt and then NC moved 55 yards down the field and scored on a Williamson to Triston Chesher TD pass, on a play in which Williamson shook 3 tackles, scrambled and found Chesher in the end zone. Brown added the PAT and with 4:51 left, NC was up 31-28. PH wasted little time and moved down the field, scoring with 2:20 left, but missed the PAT, and NC was down 34-31. NC moved the ball down the to the PH 20 yard line on a 31 yard pass to Bumbalough. With 44 seconds left, Williamson’s pass into the end zone was intercepted and NC fell 34-31.

Offensively for NC, Williamson completed 27-53 passes for 345 yards and 3 TDs with 3 Ints. Chesher led in receiving with 7 catches for 115 yards and a TD. Bumbalough had 7 for 96 and a TD, Thompson 3 for 65 and a TD, Grieser 5 for 60 yards, and Tytus Ragle 5 for 20 yards.

Defensively, Grieser had 12 total tackles, a pass defended and the pick 6. Trenton Williams and Stephen Spears had 12 tackles each. Dalton Hicks 9, Derek Amonett 7, Chandler Marcum 7 and the Int., Bryce Pinkard 6 and 2 tackles for loss, Dalton Clouse 6, and Travis Reeves 6.

NC moves to 1-2 and hosts Shelbyville next Friday at Neal Field. Kickoff at 7:30. The players and coaches would like to thank all who made the trip to PH on a cool, blustery evening.
