Trojans Grabs Lead in Fifth Inning for Victory Over Mt. Vernon
Trojans defeated Mt. Vernon 5-2 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at two with Trojans batting in the top of the fifth when Beck walked Janson Anderson to drive in a run.
Mt. Vernon captured the lead in the first inning. Smoot homered on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run.
Garrett Welch earned the win for Trojans. He tossed seven innings, allowing two runs, five hits, striking out ten, and walking one. Beck took the loss for Mt. Vernon. He went four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, three hits, and striking out four.
Home runs for Trojans came when Mason Gillis homered in the second inning and Jared Heard homered in the seventh inning. Home runs for Mt. Vernon came when Smoot homered in the first inning and Shelton homered in the first inning.
Tyler Howlett went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Trojans in hits.
