When people in New Castle hear the name Daniel Cox they think of number 10 breaking the High School 3 point record, the kid who busted his head went to the locker room got stitched up and finished the game, or most recently the Head Basketball Coach of the current New Castle Trojan Basketball Team. What many people do not know about Coach Cox is in 2001 he set a New Castle Middle School Track record in the 1600 with a time of 4 minutes and 56.1 seconds. Coach Cox held onto this record until Monday night, April 17, 2017. In steps a very talented runner Sean Roan. Sean is currently an eighth grader at NCMS and is a two time individual conference champion in cross country. Sean took to the starting line for the 1600 with one thing in mind. Win this race and score points for my team. He knew he was capable of beating the school record but that was not his main focus. When Sean crossed the finish line he became the new NCMS 1600 record holder with a time of 4 minutes and 55.35 seconds. There are many more opportunities for Sean to better this time, but Monday April 17, 2017 will always be a special day. The day the student dethroned the teacher. The day Sean Roan became the king of the 1600!
