The New Castle boys finished up the season with a very good showing at sectionals.
Brayton Helderbrand had a big day for the Trojans, finishing 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke, with a school record time of 1:00.61. He would also finish 5th in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 50.50.
Mason Warren also had a great day, placing 7th in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.81. Warren would also end up improving 4 spots to finish 9th in the consolation finals of the 100 Freestyle, in a time of 53.32.
Tallon Boling also placed 9th for the Trojans in Diving, with a final score of 227.70. In his first season diving, Tallon was able to improve his 11-dive score by 65 points from the conference meet, in January.
The Trojan relays had good days with the 200 Medley Relay team of Luke Atterson, Brayton Helderbrand, Mason Warren, and Tallon Boling finishing 7th. In the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Mason Warren, Luke Atterson, Tallon Boling, and Brayton Helderbrand, finished 10th in the consolation finals.
We had a great meet! The boys all had season and personal bests both Thursday and into Saturday. I couldn’t have been more proud of our boys. To have 3 swimmers and 1 diver that was forced into swimming on relays, our boys did awesome.
For Brayton to break the school record in the Breaststroke, that was huge for him. He obviously wanted to win going in being seeded 1st from prelims, but if he couldn’t win the race, getting the school record was a great way to finish his New Castle swimming career. Brayton and Mason will definitely be missed next year, as they both were great guys to have around and kept us on our toes as coaches.
