Game Recap

The #2 rated Dragons came to New Castle Friday night and proved their high ranking, beating the Trojans 56-7. New Pal scored quickly when they had the ball, putting up 42 points in the first half, despite only having the ball 7 and half minutes the entire half. New Castle moved the ball, but just couldn’t get in the end zone. In the 3rd quarter, NC stood up against the Dragons, as both teams’ starters were still in the game. New Pal scored the first two TD’s in the quarter, but New Castle took the ball and kept it for over 5 minutes, moving 78 yards, finally getting on the board on Senior Joe Thompson’s 1 yard TD run, set up by a 36 yard scamper by Luke Bumabalough that got the ball down to the 1. Nic Broyles extra point was good out of the hold of Nicholas Grieser, and the Trojans had 7. NC then forced a fumble on the next series and the quarter ended with the Trojans marching. In the fourth quarter, both teams got a lot of players in, and NC dominated time of possession, running the ball right at the Dragons. New Pal had put up 84 and 70 points the last 2 weeks, so the Trojans did a decent job, especially moving the ball and keeping them off the field.

Offensively, NC rushed the ball 53 times for 245 yards, with 12 different kids getting a chance to carry it. The Trojans were led by Bumbalough with 56 yards. Thompson had 45 yards, Raul Banda 38, Broyles 36, Nate Woolard 31, and Triston Chesher 25. QB Niah Williamson completed 3 of 6 passes for 65 yards. Bumbalough had 2 catches for 58 yards and Chesher 1 for 7. NC possessed the ball for almost 33 minutes, compared to the Dragon’s 15 minutes.

Defensively, Mason Bowers had 8 total tackles. Denver Cooley, Joe Thompson, and Mark Winkle had 6 each. Banda and Broyles had 4 a piece, and Banda a fumble recovery.

NC is back in action for the last regular season game at Greenfield Central next Friday night at 7:30.

The Trojans drew Delta in the sectional and will play them the following Friday (10/21) over at Delta in a revenge game. These boys will be ready. Thanks to the fans who came out and supported the boys. They played their hearts out and appreciate the support.
