Meet Recap

On Saturday, October 8th, the New Castle Trojans cross country team toed the line at the IHSAA Sectional hosted at Connersville.

The Trojan Boys’ team looked to compete for one of the coveted top 5 team places to advance to next week’s Regional meet.. Starting conservatively, the boys slowly moved forward throughout the packs of runners to place 3 runners in the top 10. Sophomore Britton Adkins led the Trojans with a 4th place finish in 17:50.2. Seniors Chris Graham (18:02.0) and Jeff Melton (18:12.6) followed taking 6th and 10th place, respectively. The next finisher for the Trojans was Trevor Ragle taking 24th place in 18:51.3. Rounding out the team score was Ben Brock in 33rd place in 19:23.0. Jaycee Wilburn (19:31.7) and Chris DiBisceglie (19:53.0) finished out the top 7 in 34th and 38th place.

Due to the strong efforts by the Trojan runners in the latter half of the race, the boys were able to beat out Rushville for 2nd place (77 points to 82 points). Hagerstown took the team race with a score of 28.

For their 2nd place effort, the boys qualify for the IHSAA Regional hosted by Rushville next Saturday, October 15th (girls’ race begins at 10:30 and boys’ race follows at 11:15).
