Delta High School
New Castle High School
Delta came into Neal Field and did what had not happened yet this year..beat the Trojans. The final was 47-21. NC received the opening kickoff and took 2 plays to score, when QB Niah Williamson hooked up with Luke Bumbalough on a 75 yard TD pass. Alex Loveless hit the extra point and with only 57 seconds gone, NC held a 7-0 lead. That duo would hook up again in the second quarter for a 51 yard TD pass, but Delta’s running game was strong, and 3 questionable penalties kept drives alive for the Eagles, when NC had them off the field. At halftime it was 27-14 Delta. The Eagles took control in the third quarter, using their ground game to keep NC at bay. Williamson hooked up with Bumbalough again in the 4th quarter from 16 yards out to finish the scoring for NC.
Offensively for NC, the Trojans took to the air, as Williamson completed 13 of 29 passes for 298 yards and 3 tds with 1 int. Bumbalough was his main target, catching 9 passes for 253 yards and the 3 tds. He also had 1 rush for 29 yards. NC’s usual potent ground game couldn’t get going against Delta as they keyed on Nic Broyles and Garrett House. NC only managed 19 yards on 20 carries. Triston Chesher had 2 catches for 24 yards and James Thompson 1 for 11.
Defensively for NC, Mason Bowers was all over the field and seemingly in on most every play, recording 25 total tackles. Raul Banda, Mark Winkle, Nate Woolard, Broyles, and Dalton Clouse were also in on many plays, each recording between 6–8 tackles. Nicholas Grieser had 5 total tackles and an Interception. Joe Thompson and Bowers blocked extra points.
NC dropped to 3-3 on the season, and is back in action next Friday night at Mt Vernon, kickoff at 7:30. Thanks to all who came out and supported the boys tonight. Hope to see you all make the trip to Mt Vernon.
