The New Castle Trojans hosted the New Castle Cross Country Invitational on Tuesday, September 13th on the hills of Memorial Park. The Trojan boys took on the challenge of their home course and battled all the way to the finish line, placing four boys in the top seven. Britton Adkins (18:26.97), Chris Graham (18:39.08), Trevor Ragle (18:52.27) and Jeff Melton (18:55.15) set the tone for the boys team taking places 2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th, respectively. Finishing out the scoring for the Trojans was Jaycee Wilburn in 12th place (19:31.92). Showing their strength up front, the Trojan boys placed all of their top 5 in front of every other teams #3 runner. Rounding out the top 7 varsity spots were Trey Williams in 27th (20:36.35) and Tyler Vance in 28th (20:46.21). Other finishers for the Trojans were: Chris DiBisceglie in 31st (21:18.19), Jace Jackson in 32nd (21:18.61), Benjamin Head in a personal best time of 22:12.94 placing 39th, Austin Morgan still working back from an injury in 45th with a personal best time of 23:25.77, Corbin Hines in 51st (24:45.15) and Elijah Sherrell in 60th (27:35.19).
For their strong effort, the Trojans easily outpaced the rest of the field winning with a total score of 26 points, winning by 34 points over Delta.
The Trojans will next be in competition on Saturday, September 17th at the Jim Leffler Invitational hosted by Yorktown High School. The girl’s varsity race is set to begin at 10:00 AM followed by the boy’s varsity race at 10:30 AM. These races will be followed by a combined JV race beginning at 11:00 AM.
