New Castle competed in the Hoosier Heritage Conference tournament on Saturday at Muncie Elks.
The 8 conference teams were shotgunned and spread out on holes 1-8. New Castle, paired with Yorktown and Pendleton, started on holes 1-3. After roughly 8 holes were completed, an hour long rain delay took place. With more rain on the way, a unanimous decision was made to shorten the tournament to a nine hole event. To make the event fair to all, all teams had to complete the front 9 holes. Teams that were currently on the back 9 were re-routed to hole 1, which meant an even longer wait for the Trojans.
After all holes on the front 9 were complete for all teams, the Trojans came out on top with a score of 152. Yorktown placed 2nd with 154 and Shelbyville was 3rd with a 160.
Drew Saunders was All Conference and low medalist with a 2-under, 34.
Blake Wheeler was also All Conference with a 38.
Kole Schofield placed 13th with a 40 and Trevor Turner placed 14th also with a 40.
Rounding out the Trojans scores was Jacob Campbell with a 41.
This is the 2nd Conference Title for New Castle in the past 3 years. The win in 2013 involved the North Central Conference. Trojans, Drew Saunders and Kole Schofield have gained All Conference awards in both conferences.
New Castle will host Rushville on Monday at Westwood.
