Delta High School
The New Castle Wrestling Team traveled to Delta High School Wednesday evening to take on the Eagles in a dual meet and came away with a 40-34 victory to move their record to 8-3 for the season. The Trojans and the Eagles each had seven individual wins, but it was the New Castle grapplers who were able to secure the pins to get the win. The Trojans had six wrestlers gain six point victories to Deltaâs three. Zach Hughes, Trevor Ragle, Bryton Tuttle, Billy Decker, Caleb Hoots, and Dalton Clouse each scored six for the team. Nate Woollard also won by a Major Decision to score bonus points for the Trojans. After the 152 pound match Delta was ahead by a score of 28-18 lead with just five matches remaining. The green and white would need to win four out of those five matches with two of the wins being by fall if they were to come out victorious. They knew they only had four chances because they were forfeiting the 170 pound weight class due to a wrestler quitting earlier in the week. Billy Decker started the action by pinning his man in :55 seconds. Caleb Hoots was up next in the 182 pound class, and extended his season record to 10-1 by gaining a fall in just :57 seconds. Nate Woollard, wrestling at 195 pounds, pulled his team into a 34-34 tie when he scored a major decision with a 14-4 win. Freshman Dalton Clouse then ended Deltaâs hopes when he pinned his man in the second period to make the final score 40-34 in favor of New Castle. Coach Peckinpaugh liked the teamâs effort in the match. âWe won because we had guys who went for, and got, the pins, plus we stayed off our backs. Four Freshmen had wins for us and one other one wrestled hard and stayed in a match without getting pinned. It was a good team effort.â Winning Junior Varsity matches were Jacob Buell and Garrett House.
