New Castle High School
The Lady Trojans improved to 2-0 in the HHC with a 35-33 win over New Palestine on Tuesday evening. New Castle came out of the gate strong, but struggled to convert during the 2nd and 3rd quarters, opening the door for a comeback by the Dragons. New Palestine seized their first lead of the game at 27-26 with 6:40 left in the 4th quarter, but the lead would change hands three more times before the final buzzer.
Trailing 33-32 after a successful 3-point attempt by Laura Thomas, the Lady Trojans stole the ensuing inbound play and called a quick timeout. However the Dragons would regain possession on the next play, before the Lady Trojans again could come up with a steal, leading to a second chance opportunity converted by Zoe Curtis, who also got fouled on the attempt. After completing the 3-point play, the Lady Trojans held on to a 35-33 win as the Dragons’ final attempt fell short.
Laura Thomas led the Lady Trojans with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Sarah Downs added 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist.
The Lady Trojans will return home for another HHC battle with the undefeated Yorktown Tigers on December 6th. JV tip is 6:00 PM, with the varsity to follow.
