The girls’ soccer team continued their winning ways over the weekend as they participated in the Hoosier Cup in Bloomington, IN. On Friday evening, the Trojans faced Evansville Central, an opponent that they had never seen previously, coming out on top 6-2. New Castle jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Bears in the first half, and never looked back. Courtney Denney posted the hat trick, and Anna Smith, Samantha Underwood, and Calissa Centner each added one goal to the Trojans total. Sarah Downs had 3 saves in goal.
On Saturday morning, the Trojans were paired up with Bloomington South, a team that they defeated 2-1 in the 2013 regional semi-final. After playing to a 1-1 tie in the 1st half, it looked as if it were going to be a similar match to last year. However, the Trojans came out strong in the 2nd half, scoring two unanswered goals and winning 3-1. Courtney Denney, Macy Broyles, and Delanee Frye all scored for New Castle, and Olivia Malott recorded an assist.
In their final match of the tournament, New Castle faced Edgewood, and came out with a decisive 6-0 victory, capping off a 3-0 weekend and remaining undefeated. Most impressive was the fact that all six goals were scored on assists, and by six different players (Elizabeth Kelly, Stephanie Baker, Samantha Underwood, Macy Broyles, Margy Welch, & Delanee Frye).
The Lady Trojans travel to Oldenburg on Tuesday, September 9th to face the 1A #12 Twisters.
