It was all looking good for New Castle halfway through their first game of the 2014 season. After falling behind 6-0 early, the Trojans gained a 7-6 lead after a 53-yard touchdown run by Cody Werking. The Wildcats quickly answered with a touchdown of their own, and after converting the 2-point conversion, led New Castle 14-7.
Quarterback Hank Neal took it from there. Starting from the shotgun, Neal took advantage of holes created by the offensive line to make consecutive touchdown runs of 42 yards and 37 yards respectively. New Castle seemed to find the recipe for success, and took a 21-14 lead into halftime.
However, the second half didn’t bring the same success to the Trojans, and the Wildcats found the end zone twice, taking advantage of a short field to take the lead 28-21. With 2 minutes remaining, New Castle made one last effort to knot the game up. After three consecutive completions moved the ball to midfield with just over a minute to play, penalties killed the final drive and secured the victory for Franklin County.
New Castle will host Rushville this Friday at 7:00 PM. The annual Golden Trojan Booster Club Tailgate Party will begin at 5:45 PM and is open to all New Castle fans.
