The New Castle tennis team started the season of right with a 5-0 sweep of Henry County and sectional foe Tri.
At No. 1 singles, New Castle’s Dusty Vincent earned a close three-set win over Tri’s Riley Casteel. Vincent took the first set 6-4 , but Casteel answered back with a 7-6 victory in the second set. Vincent returned to form in the 3rd set, closing out the match 6-3.
At No. 2 singles, David Bennett (NC) defeated Tri’s Corbin Pew 6-2, 6-3, while teammate Cayden Smekens quickly closed out Tri’s Jeffrey Niessen at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 to sealthe match.
At #1 doubles, the New Castle team of Josiah Sledd and Mason Warren fought through a three-set battle for a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 victory. The Trojan No. 2 doubles duo of Caleb Matthews and Nathan Hacker also earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tri’s Robert Wyant and Mason Rottinghaus.
