|The boys cross country team competed at the IHSAA Sectional Tuesday night at Connersville High School. Going into the meet, the favorites for the team title were New Castle, Hagerstown and Connersville. The Trojans had beaten Connersville by a few points in late August at the Rushville Invitational while the Trojans had beaten Hagerstown on a tiebreaker in late September at the Yorktown Invitational.
Throughout the race, the Trojans ran with heart and competed very well passing some critical runners in the last half mile. Although the Trojans were successful in defeating the Tigers of Hagerstown by 3 points, the host school (Connersville), ran very well and placed 3 runners in the Top 11 to secure the victory.
Continuing his successful senior year, Sam Willis had a phenomenal race for the Green and White and placed 2nd overall with a time of 17:15, 27 seconds behind the winner Matt Hill from Connersville.
Also running in the race was sophomore Hunter Rose (17th), junior Justin Burkholder (18th), freshman Jeff Melton (22nd), senior Devin Solomon (28th), junior Patrick Calvert (34th) and sophomore Bronson Dye (41st).
Willis, Rose and Burkholder all placed in the Top 20 and earned All-Sectional honors. By placing in the Top 5, the NCXC team advanced to the IHSAA Regional meet for the 30th straight year.
The Trojans are now 75-35 and will run the Regional Meet on Saturday in Rushville.
