|The New Castle Boys Cross Country team competed in the Large School Division at the Blackford Invitational on Saturday. The Trojans placed 3rd as a team with 94 points behind Mt. Vernon (41) and Pendleton Heights (61). Leading the way for the Trojans was senior Sam Willis who placed 5th overall with a time of 16:46. Junior Patrick Calvert had his best race of his career by placing 10th with a time of 17:10. Sophomore Hunter Rose had a breakout race and placed 20th with a time of 17:57 breaking 18 minutes for the first time ever. Junior Justin Burkholder was next for the Green & White and placed 28th with a time of 18:12 and rounding out the Top 5 was freshman Jeff Melton who placed 31st with a time of 18:24. Also running in the Varsity Race was senior Devin Solomon who placed 33rd in a time of 18:28 and sophomore Bronson Dye placed 34th with a time of 18:41. In the Varsity meet, Calvert, Rose, Burkholder, Solomon and Dye all had Personal Best times.
In the JV race, senior Ross Schmeisser and freshmen Chris Graham and Tyler Vance all ran as a pack through two miles; however, Graham and Vance pulled away from Schmeisser and ran neck-and-neck throughout most of the last mile. In the final straighaway, Vance pulled away from Graham and placed 11th with a time of 19:17. Graham finished in 12th while Schmeisser placed 13th. Also running in the JV race was sophomore Hayden McIlwain (28th), senior Eli Foster (50th) and junior Robbie Lamb (55th). Vance, Schmeisser, McIlwain, Foster and Lamb all achieved Personal Best times.

The Trojans are now 33-24 and will race next at the NEW CASTLE INVITATIONAL Tuesday night at Memorial Park. This will be the only home meet of the year and all New Castle students and staff are invited to attend. The meet is free for all to attend.
