New Castle High School Soccer Varsity Boys falls to New Palestine High School 2-3
Soccer Varsity Boys
New Castle lost a tough battle to New Palestine Tuesday night with a 3-2 defeat. The game was controlled by New Pal but kept close by great effort from the Trojans. New Pal scored early in the match but NC would continue to be relentless in making the game close as they close out the half as Tyler Broyles played two corner kicks in the final 20 seconds of the half with the 2nd one being put away by Matheus Cecchini with 2 seconds left in the half. NC would concede the next goal to New Pal before Cecchini would find the back of the net from outside the 18 yard box in the 70th minute on another set up from Broyles. New Castle goalie Sam Thompson made numerous saves including a diving one handed save to keep the match close. However inadvertent hand ball with 23 seconds late sealed the Trojans fate as the Dragons converted the penalty kick. “We have had a very difficult stretch of continuous games with little recovery and we were not at full strength but that did not deter this team from playing to their full potential. This team found a way to compete with a very good New Pal team and even in defeat showed great character and poise. This is a special group of players and I am very proud of their work tonight.” NC improved to 6-3-2 on the season and travels to Rushville Thursday night.
