Soccer Varsity Boys
New Castle Boys Varsity Soccer team rounded out its tournament play in the Hoosier Cup Saturday night with its third 2-0 victory of the tourney. The victory clinched the Michael O’Dea Pool Division. NC did not allow a goal in the three games in which it played. In the final game NC got the goals from Captains Brad Broyles and Bryant Martin. Broyles was assisted by Damien Upchurch 15 minutes into the game as Martin converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Sam Thompson had 5 saves in net. Coach Jacob White stated, “This was another great win for our team. This weekend brought our team closer and forced them to push their limits mentally and physically. I am very proud of their ability to close out opponents as we played several players in our defensive rotation. Our team showed great maturity and growth in their ability to control the tempo of the game.” The team completed a match filled week and 4 games in three days going 4-0-1. This improved the team’s record to 6-2-2 and notched the 5th shutout of the season. New Castle has little time to recover as they play three games this week beginning by traveling to future HHC rival New Palestine on Tuesday.
