News · New Castle Welcomes New Coaches

As we enter the 2013-14 school year, New Castle fans will see several new faces on several sidelines.  Even as the staff changes, the goals of each program are the same:  dedication, hard work, and success all the while representing a first class program.

Brett Smith will enter his first year as the head coach of the Lady Trojans’ soccer program after serving as an assistant coach at New Castle for the previous 7 seasons.  Smith will take over a program on the rise and looks to continue their development as they look to go deeper into the state tournament.  The Lady Trojans brought home their 3rd straight sectional crown in 2013, falling 1-0 to Bloomington North in the first round of the IHSAA Regionals.

Will Ragle is taking over a New Castle football team that is hungry for success.  Coach Ragle served as the head coach at Tri High School in 2012, and was previously a member of the Trojan coaching staff from 1999-2012.  Over the course of last season, the Trojans saw marked improvement each week, playing their best football at the end of the season.  Coach Ragle and his staff have been working hard all summer and look to build a winning tradition at New Castle High School.  The early dedication of the team is a great sign of a program heading in the right direction.

With the departure of Roger Miller, Corie West has been promoted to take over as the head coach of the girls’ basketball program.  Corie is entering her 5th year on the Lady Trojan staff.  Coach West is a 2007 graduate of New Castle High School, and a former Indiana All-Star.  She finished her career at New Castle ranked 3rd in scoring and steals, and 4th in assists.  Under Coach West, the Lady Trojans will look to continue their upward movement in 2013-14, building off of their success as a young team last season.

After 16 years at the helm of the Trojan boys’ basketball program, Coach Steve Bennett has stepped down.  Over the course of his 22-year coaching career (16 at New Castle), Coach Bennett collected a record of 416-135 (265-102 at New Castle), 6 sectional titles, 2 regional titles, and a state championship in 2006.  Taking over the program will be 2005 New Castle graduate Daniel Cox.  Daniel has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Carmel High School, finishing the last two seasons with 4A state championship titles.  Daniel played college basketball at Taylor University, where he was named to the NAIA Division II All-American Honorable Mention list.

We invite all Trojan fans to come out and support the student athletes and the entire New Castle coaching staff throughout the 2013-14 school year.  We look forward to the exciting changes to come!
