The New Castle high school girls swim team made their 1st splash of the season at the highly anticipated 3 way-meet against Eastern Hancock and Batesville. The pool was alive with energy as the girls took a double win against both teams. The meet started off with an electrifying win from the 200-meter medley Relay team of Sydney Mathew’s, Olivia Owens, Alaina Bowman, and Drew Arthur. The night was filled with several wins from the girls, including Freshman Brenna Howe. Howe placed first in the 200 Freestyle and 500 freestyle. Senior, Olivia Owens placed 1st in both her 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Owens is looking forward to a successful season as she has just signed her letter of intent for swimming at Ball State University. Senior, Sydney Mathews also had a successful night winning both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Junior, Drew Arthur also won the 50 freestyle. There were several 2nd place finishes throughout the meet, including Senior Alaina Bowman in the 100 butterfly. The 400 free relay swam an amazing race earning a 1st place finish. The relay team was made up of Mathews, Arthur, Howe, and Owens. The NCHS girls swim team not only showcased their incredible talent but also demonstrated their values of sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork. The team looks forward to swimming with the boys at home against Yorktown this coming Tuesday.
